Obituary
Frederick dale aldridge, 78, of goldtown, wv, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on friday, july 14, 2017. He was born on september 6, 1938, in pikeville, ky, to oscar and magaline aldridge.
Fred attended mullins high school and was admitted into the mullins high school hall of fame. After graduating he attended morris harvey college where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education. From there fred received his master’s in education administration from west virginia university. Fred taught and coached at roosevelt junior high school, horace mann junior high school, and finally, george washington high school where he led the basketball team to 1971 state championship. Following his teaching and coaching career, fred was a school administrator, serving as vice principal at ripley high school, and principal at ravenswood high school. While in administration, fred served on the wvssac, and for the last 17 years as the commissioner of the msac. Throughout his life he received numerous awards including one of the winningest high school basketball coaches in wv.
On may 23, 1959, fred married patricia fisher and was happily married for 58 years, until the end of his life.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers daryl aldridge and jim aldridge; and his sisters, jo keith and donna aldridge. He is survived by wife, patricia aldridge, daughter and son-in-law kemi and bruce king, and daughter and son-in-law candie and adam bowles. He is also survived by his grandchildren, cassia king and fiancã©, caleb king and wife hannah king, storm matheny, ryan bowles, and courtney bowles and fiancã© andrew schweiger.
Fred was a believer in christ through which he attended bible center church for several years and was an active member of fisher memorial church. Fred was a proactive member of his community. He was beloved by his community and the many he touched as an educator and coach. Fred loved his family unconditionally and was unbelievably loved in return. Fred will be missed terribly, and his family is looking forward to seeing him again in his heavenly home.
Funeral service will be held 6:00 p.M., sunday, july 16, 2017 at fisher memorial church with pastor aaron finney officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.M., monday, july 17, 2017 at floral hills garden of memories, sissonville, wv.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be appreciated toward pastoral ministry at fisher memorial church, kenna, wv 25248.
