Been There, Done That

Unless you’ve dealt with the loss of a loved one before, you can be blindsided by all the responsibilities you face. In addition to already having dealt with a variety of challenges leading up to your loss (i.e. doctors, nurses, going back and forth to the hospital or hospice) now you’re treading even more new ground because the person you’ve devoted so much care to is no longer present.

At Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home & Crematorium, we’ve been there and done that. We walked the solitary road with dozens of families and in the process, have provided unprecedented funeral care in and around South Charleston, WV.

Take a Deep Breath

No one said it was going to be easy, but you can do this. Take a deep breath and understand that you are with friends. We’re going to help you by focusing on the little things. For example, we’ll go over our general price list, the casket price list, and any other appropriate price-related documents. There’s a reason for this and it has as much to with your budget and as it does legal compliance with the Federal Trade Commission’s Funeral Rule.

The Funeral Rule enables you to “choose only those goods and services you want or need and to pay only for those you select, whether you are making arrangements when a death occurs or in advance. The Rule allows you to compare prices among funeral homes, and makes it possible for you to select the best funeral service you want at the home you use.”

It’s not for us to say if other service-providers review this, but with so much going on in your life, isn’t it better if you have a clear view of what we offer?

Meaningful for You…and Your Loved One

We’ll then confer with you on the ceremony planning to create something that is not only celebratory, but also meaningful. To that end, you’ll need to consider clothing in which to bury the deceased, names of pallbearers, music, readings and so on.

You’ll perhaps want special items of remembrance to be interred with your loved one on their journey. There is a choreography involved in these final moments.  And the more preparation we can do together, the smoother and more memorable this occasion will be. Certainly this type of planning can be almost as taxing as your actual loss, but don’t worry you’ll be among people who care about your welfare.
