Caroline Ruth (Recco) McDaniel

On February 1st, 2019, Caroline Ruth (Recco) McDaniel departed this life at CAMC Memorial after a short illness. Born on August 31, 1920, she was 98 years old.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Ray McDaniel. A graduate of West Virginia Institute of Technology in education, she taught mathematics for 40 years beginning at Pratt Junior High and retiring in 1983 from East Bank Junior High School. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Margaret Annie, (husband, Allen B. Annie) and two grandsons who were her pride and joy:  William B. Annie and Frank H. Annie, PhD candidate (wife, Sarah Embrey, PharmD). Caroline was a lifelong dog lover and could always be seen surrounded by her beloved pets.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2019 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kanawha City, where there will be a Rosary Service at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be conducted the next day, 11a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Hansford.  Burial will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park, London. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to one of Caroline’s favorite charities, Boys Town, online at boystown.org Condolences may be sent to family at www.barlowbonsall.com .

She, along with her sisters, were favorites of mine. I had three of them as teachers all through school. They were caring, non-judgmental, helpful teachers. I was going to another school and called Mrs. McDaniel one night over some algebra problems I didn’t understand. She not only took the time to solve the problem but helped me understand how to solve it. This was in the early 60’s. I’ve never forgotten any of them. We need more like them in our school system today! My condolences to the family. You’ve lost a “fine” lady.
