Charles “charlie” w. Tilton, 95, died in his sleep on april 28, 2019, at his home in charleston, west virginia.

Born in charleston on august 30, 1923 to mary eveva dilley and josephus g. Tilton, charles was preceded in death by brothers, virgil and curtis, and sister, lily miller.

He graduated from charleston high in 1941, then joined the army air force and served in england as a bombardier.  he was later a member and director of the 44th bomb group veterans association.  in 1949, charlie married betty jane pierson, also of charleston.  they were married until her death in 2002 and had two children, tom and the late vicki french.  he retired after 42 years as an electrician at union carbide corp, and was a member of the elks lodge, golfer, and world traveler.

Charlie is survived by his son, thomas tilton, three granddaughters, and one great-grandson.

No service is planned.

Thanks to the longtime caregivers, roxanna rardon, and cheryl harmon

he was with us a long time, he left the way he wanted to, and we’ll miss him – that’s all we know. .
