  1. Chuck was a vigorous and able opponent in my years representing coal companies in litigation and bargaining with the UMWA. The Union and the practice of labor law will be diminished by his absence.

    1. Dave Reedy says:

John O’Donohue (😇Irish author) says it well..
“May you continue to inspire us.
To enter each day with a generous heart.
To serve the call and courage of love
Until we see your beautiful face again
in that land where there is no more separation
Where all tears will be wiped from our mind
And where we will never lose you again.”

MaryJo and I send love and affection to Judy, Sean, Patsy, Bill, Brian, Eileen, Dan and know we’ll miss Charlie.

  2. To Chuck,

A chara chili’s. (Irish for My very dear friend)

The Road always rose to meet you
The wind was always at your back
The sun always shined warmly upon your face
The rain always fell softly upon your fields
    And until we meet again
God will be holding you gently in the palm of his hand

Mise le means mor (Irish for With greatest respect)

  3. I worked together with Chuck for over 30 years. We were UMWA co-counsel, co-collaborators, and most importantly, friends. As we would end a phone call of strategic brain-storming, he always signed off with his signature “Go get ’em, kiddo.” My sense of loss is deep, and one that I share with so many others in the UMWA family. Sending my prayers that Chuck rests peacefully in God’s arms, and my deepest condolences to his family.

  4. I knew Chuck as an Attorney representing the UMWA. I was usually adverse to him. At all times Chuck Donnelly was a polite, respectful, but a tenacious Advocate for his client. The UMW never had a better friend. Chuck could laugh with you, at you, but most of all, at himself.

As a fellow Irish Catholic, I have no doubt that Chuck went straight away to God in Heaven, without any need for petition, motion or appeal. When I go, I want Chuck to handle my case.

  5. R.I.P. Chuck , You touched so many lives in your life and work. You had the admiration and respect of everyone who knew you. You will be missed by so many. My prayers are with you Judy and Sean. I hope you find comfort in the difficult days ahead.
