Obituary

David lee dorsey, 67, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather went to be with the lord on january 27, 2019 at hubbard hospice house. He lived in charleston, wv.

He was born on december 27, 1951 in charleston to the late james c. Dorsey and louise westberry dorsey.

David was a graduate of east bank high school. He served in the us navy as an aviation electrician. When he returned from his military service he attended morris harvey college. He served his community for 20 plus years as a volunteer fire fighter, where he was assistant chief for a period of time in chesapeake, wv and was also a certified emt. He worked at the state capital as an electrician. He worked at machinery inc. Doing generator and electrical work. He taught a course in electricity for job corp. He went on to become a master electrician, master plumber, and hvac certified technician. He worked as the building engineer at charleston town center for 35 plus years. He was blessed to have worked with many of his co-workers for more than 30 years, which made it like a family atmosphere in the workplace.

David was a devoted family man. He was a dedicated mountaineers fan. David came from a large family and he loved hosting and attending family gatherings. At these gatherings, he enjoyed reminiscing about his youthful days of old with his brothers and sister. He liked telling jokes and had a great sense of humor.   he was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, boating, kayaking, and camping with his friends and family. He was a man of many talents. He built a beautiful home where he and his family have lived for the past 18 years. He could work on and repair things from cars to computers. He always kept things in good working condition which was a true blessing to his family.

David is survived by his wife of 40 years, joyce o’quinn dorsey. They have three great children, lee dorsey of charleston; jillian (tyler) dorsey friend of oakland, md; chris (ashlyn) dorsey of carrollton, va. Three beautiful grandchildren, ethan 7; jeremy 5; and alayna 2 ½ from oakland, md.   he is survived by six brothers and one sister, james jr. (joy) of cumberland, va; dean (betty); arnold (cheri); ross of chesapeake, wv; robert (ali); roger (pam) of south charleston, wv; sister jo (bruce) ditrapani dorsey rogers of winifrede, wv. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will be lovingly remembered by many friends and family.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at camc memorial and the hubbard hospice house, charleston for all of the care that was given to david.

Memorial service will be 4 p.M. Saturday, february 9, 2019 at the bible center church, 100 bible center drive, charleston, wv 25309 with pastor richard thompson officiating. Visitation for those who wish to extend condolences will begin at 3 p.M. , which is 1 hour prior the service at the church.
