Obituary

James William Sherwood, 94 of Belle went home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2020 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

He retired from Smith Transfer, Charleston and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and was a faithful member of the Oakwood Road Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by wife, Murline Campbell Sherwood; parents: Terrance and Cecil Mildred Epling Sherwood; brothers, Terrance Junior, John David and Dempsey Sherwood and sister, Doris Sherwood.

Surviving are daughters, Dorothy Ann (Jack) Hinkle of Summersville, Patty (Mike) Young of Cape Coral, FL, Jane (Matt) Barber of Charleston, Karela (Tom) Blinco of Charleston; sister: Carol Launt of Johnson City, TN; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Funeral will be 1 p.m., Friday March 6, 2020 at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston with Minister Jonathan Chaffin officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way Charleston, WV 25311.

  1. Karela and family, such a gentle, sweet, strong man! I have enjoyed hearing about his happy exploits for so many years. All of you are fortunate to be able to cherish so many wonderful memories. Hold your father/grandfather in your hearts knowing how ferociously he loved all of you.
