Obituary

Joe ann clark isabell, of dunbar, west virginia, born in charleston, west virginia, to madge and edward clark, sr., passed on november 17, 2017. She is survived by her daughters regina isabell of dunbar, wv and kim isabell of louisville, ky, sisters pauline hairston, betty coleman, barbara bostic, brother bobby jo clark, aunt thelma meeks, daughter in law talma isabell, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by robert c. Isabell, sr. Her high school sweetheart and husband of 56 years, her son robert c. Isabell, jr., brothers edward clark, jr., paul clark, and sister donna smoot.

She was a graduate of garnet high school. Joe ann also attended west virginia state college where she served as a life guard. In the 1960’s joe ann and robert worked together as co-owners of rose dino in charleston, wv. Joe ann was also an employee at charleston memorial hospital. Subsequently, she was employed by the west virginia department of motor vehicles where she was the first african american operations supervisor. She loved her employees and her career from which she retired after 43 years of service.

Joe ann was a member of the conservettes, the wives of the conservatives, a non-profit social club. In 2011 joe ann received a lifetime achievement award from the all black high school sports and academic hall of fame as a member of the 1949 garnet high school girls state basketball championship team. Joe ann was full of life and personality. She had a strong love of family and her heritage; her days were always brightened by seeing her grandchildren. Affectionately called “mom” by her children and grandchildren alike; she was loved dearly by her family and friends.

Memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on friday, november 24, 2017 at st. Anthony catholic church at 1000 6th st, charleston, wv 25302, the family will receive friends on friday, from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at the church.
