John George Zekan, Jr.
Date of Birth : August 18, 1948
Date of Death : February 10, 2019

John George Zekan, Jr. 70, of Charleston, WV passed away on February 10, 2019. He was born August 18, 1948 in Denver, Colorado to Mrs. Verna Zekan and the late Dr. John G. Zekan.

He was graduate of Charleston Catholic High School and received a degree in Biology from

Wheeling Jesuit College. He combined his interest in science and mechanics with his entrepreneurial spirit to establish his own company, “Surtec”, to sell, install, and service surgical lights and tables. He subsequently utilized his vast knowledge of biochemistry and nutrition to educate and counsel patients at the office of his brother, Dr. Steve Zekan.

John was a true renaissance man. He had a quick wit and an insatiable curiosity, loving to learn and talk about any and all subjects. He was a kind and gentle person who never met a stranger, and would always offer a helping hand. He had a deep appreciation of nature and the outdoors, and especially enjoyed hunting with his friends in the Stewarts Run Hunting Club. However, the biggest joy in his life was spending time with his nieces and nephews, whom he cherished.

He is survived by his mother, Verna Zekan; by six siblings, Dr. Stephen Zekan (Cathy), Dr. Patricia Zekan Crumpler (Terry), William Zekan (Carol), Dr. Elizabeth Zekan Petryna (Mark), Dr, Jeanne Zekan, Dr. Thomas Zekan; and by ten nieces and nephews, Elizabeth C. Anderson (Blake), Carolyn Crumpler, Matthew Zekan, Anna Zekan, Mary Catherine Zekan, Joan Zekan, David Zekan, Ellen Petryna, Caroline Zekan, and John J. Zekan.

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Saint Agnes Catholic Church.   Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 5 to 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity or St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Prayers for all the family, during this great time of sorrow! John was a man with great integrity and insight. He was a blessing to the patients at Dr. Zekans office, as he shared his wisdom and knowledge on a variety of subjects; from vitamins, food, world views and life lessons. His very presences would start a conversation. You knew when he walked in door, you would hear the words, \"Hey John, what do you thing about....\". From those words, a long in depth conversation would begin amongst those in the room. What a joy to had known him! What a blessing to had sat in his presence and what a day it will be, when we all meet again, on heavens shore!! Peace my friend and thank you!

Bill, Patty and Steve, I am so sorry for your loss. I wasn\'t able to stay in touch with John, but thought about him often. I assume he was not a \"social media\" guy, so I couldn\'t track him down. But I have fond memories of the late night talks we had in college. Please share my condolences with your mom. --Mike Powers
