Obituary

Mary elizabeth “liz” simmons, 79 of charleston, died peacefully on thursday, october 4, 2018 in company of family at the hubbard hospice house, charleston.

Her funeral service will be held 3 pm, sunday, october 7, 2018 at barlow bonsall funeral home, 1118 virginia street, east, charleston. A brief visitation will be held just prior to the services at 2 pm.

Liz was born in charleston on december 26, 1938 to the late emil and ethel bellette. She lived nearly all her life in kanawha city. Liz graduated from charleston high school, class of 1957 and attended marshall university. She was married to edward carleton simmons, who preceded her in death. She worked as a legal secretary, retiring from bowles rice law firm after more than 35 years.

She was a strong woman, and a most caring mother and grand-mother. She enjoyed gardening and was known among her friends as “the historian” because of her amazing ability to recollect detailed accounts of friends, neighbors and family events. She understood the importance of keeping up personal correspondences, as well as the documenting of anecdotes which she recorded in her own beautiful hand writing for her loved ones to cherish.

Liz is survived by her son, david, daughter-in-law, mindy, and her granddaughters, claudia and lilly.

Friends may wish to honor liz with a memorial gift offered to her “grand-angels” who were the light of her days. It would have been liz’s joy to know others have supported claudia and lilly in their education and careers, on her behalf.

Expressions of sympathy can be sent to: 1500 ravinia road, charleston, wv 25314.
