Obituary

Charles Raymond Barnes, better known as “Chuck,” 65, of Dunbar, WV, passed away Monday, October 5, 2020, surrounded by his wife and three of his five children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond C. Barnes and Mary L. Barnes of Rockville, MD.
He survived by his brother, William C. Barnes; sisters, Marjorie B. Copeland, Audrey B. Ludlow; wife, Melva “Charlene” Barnes; sons, Charles R. Barnes Jr., Clifton Russell Barnes; daughters, Cynthia J. Thomas, Christiana M. Barnes, Carianne M. Barnes; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Chuck was a jack-of-all trades, working in carpentry, construction, plumbing and HVAC, across Maryland and West Virginia.
He met his beautiful wife of 41 years and her daughter, Cyndi, at church in Gaithersburg, MD. The two married in December 1979 and shared four children together: Chuck Jr., Hannah, Carie and Clifton.
Anyone that knew Chuck Barnes knew he loved to tell stories, boy, was he a talker! He had strong beliefs and opinions, and an even stronger stubborn side. But, he also had a soft, gentle, loving side that cherished time spent with his family and solitude.
One thing we know for certain, he loved his family! He gave his body to many years of hard labor and was able to spend his last few years of life as a full time Dad and Grandad.
He was a lover of all things outdoor, especially hunting and fishing. He devoted time in his later years to teaching and sharing his passion for fishing with his children and grandchildren. He was a collector of many things, and cherished the memory and story each “trinket” possessed. He loved to send these “trinkets” home with his children and grandchildren, but not without sharing their significance to him.
He also really loved the Bible and would share it with anyone patient enough to listen.
He will be deeply missed! Undoubtedly, his stories and memories will live on through each person that had the chance to know him.
Due to the pandemic, a public visitation or service will not be held at this time. A private memorial will be observed by family at a later time.
