Obituary

William Harold Koontz Jr of Platte City, MO passed away suddenly on September 9, 2020. Bill was born January 16, 1949 to William Harold and Joanna Koontz.

He grew up on the West Side of Charleston, WV along with his younger sister, Debbie. After graduating from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1966, he attended Marshall University. In 1971 Bill graduated from Marshall with a BA in accounting. After college he served his country in the Army Reserves. Bill’s education served him well as an employee with H&R Block beginning as a tax preparer in Huntington, WV through retiring in 2003 from Block’s World Headquarters as Senior Vice President of Western Operations.

Although, Bill worked hard he also enjoyed playing hard. He was an avid Marshall University Thundering Herd fan and supporter. He loved fishing, traveling, cooking and volunteering at his church. He was always a good listener. Bill was a stalwart caregiver for wife, Kristi Marie, during her 14 year battle with cancer. He never tired of advocating for her.

Bill will be remembered for being a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He was preceded in death by his father and his wife.

Bill will be sadly missed by his daughter, Kristi Koontz McNeary(Mark); son, Billy Koontz; grandsons, Tristan Walsh and Will Koontz; mother, Joanna Koontz; sister Debbie Koontz Steinberg(Marty) along with a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Plans for a memorial service will be announced later. Should friends desire, memorial donations can be made to Mt Zion Baptist Church, PO Box 175, Edgerton, MO 64444 earmarked for The Awana Club in memory of Bill Koontz.
