Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Hudson (Latham), 87, left this life behind and joined her forever residency in Heaven with our Lord, Jesus Christ on October 28, 2020. She lived her life on this earth loving any and everybody leaving no judgement upon them. If you had the pleasure to know Mary Elizabeth, you would probably agree she lived with Joy and a song in her heart. However, let it be known though, she may or not have cheated while playing the game “Yahtzee” (Wink!) She accomplished much in her life, but claimed that the most important thing in this life was to know in your heart the love of Jesus, which is the only way to an eternity in Heaven. She truly put God first, then her family, and others around her.

She was preceded in death by both parents, James and Edith Means, of which she always gave them honor for being raised in a good Christian home. Her siblings, two brothers, David R. Means (Diane), James M. Means- deceased (Juanita); three sisters, Edna Mace (Alvin), Claudia Sammataro (Frank) and Lorine Brogan – deceased; She was married to her love Gerald T. Hudson (deceased) for 52 years. Together, they had two children, Edith Poythress (deceased); son Gerald (Jerry) T. Hudson, Jr. (Mary Katherine) and fostered, Curtis Souder.

She has five grandchildren, Wayne Poythress, Mary Jarrett (Arron), Colton Hudson (Kayla), Kaylea Carroll (Joe) and Hannah Hudson. Her nine great-grandchildren, are Madyson Kimble, Noah Kimble, Luke Given, Abigail Poythress, Rachel Poythress, Brinley Hudson, Corbin Hudson, Madilyn Hudson, and Elana Rose Carroll. She greatly loved her children and grandchildren. She left the greatest inheritance of teaching, showing, and living out God’s word, to Love. However, she would not ever want to take the credit, only direct it to whom it came from, our Father in Heaven.

She studied cosmetology, at the Charleston Beauty Academy and later excelled to become an instructor. She studied psychology, as well as earning her LPN, nursing degree from Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston). She said nursing was a wonderful job that allowed her to care for those “precious souls”. Every accomplishment she earned exemplified her desire to serve others, as her true calling. This selfless love was demonstrated through her 35 years at Heartland Hospital and the many ways she served at her church and others.

She favored Psalms 91, knowing God was her refuge no matter what came in her path. She chose to trust Him every day. She chose to follow His lead, to love others as Christ has loved us. She would tell us today, there is nothing more important than to live your life for Christ, carrying your crosses daily, and to honor Him above all else.
