Obituary

Oliver leo pettry, jr., 72, of charleston passed away saturday, august 25, 2018 at the hubbard hospice house, west, south charleston after a brief illness.

Leo was retired from bayer crop science, institute.

He was a member of st. George orthodox cathedral, charleston.

Leo was born in raleigh county, lived in new york, texas, florida, virginia and came back to charleston in 1994.

He was a u. S. Army veteran of viet nam, where he was awarded the bronze star, the republic of viet nam gallantry cross, unit citation, civil action honor medal and combat infantry badge.

Leo was a member of the disabled american veterans association and the iron workers union.

He loved hunting, fishing and living off the land.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, lucille and oliver leo pettry, sr

he is survived by his former wife, best friend and caregiver, allegra daniel of st. Albans; step-children, marea clement (eric) of aurora, il and brian berkley (michelle) of albany, or; sisters, sharon elkins of calhan, co and carolyn bowman of norton, va; brothers, danny pettry (linda) of staunton, va and michael pettry of charleston; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; faithful companion of 12 years, his chocolate lab, “lucy”; friends and caregivers, joe and christina roop.

Funeral service will be 10 a.M. Friday, august 31, 2018 at st. George orthodox cathedral, charleston with reverend father joseph hazar, dean and the very. Rev. Father olof scott officiating. Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial with veterans graveside rites will be 1p.M. Friday at sunset memorial park, beckley  dany and mike pettry will be honorary pallbearers.
