Obituary

On thursday, november 8, 2018, wilbur leon keeling, beloved husband and father of six daughters, left this world for heaven at the age of 92. Wilbur leon was born july 14, 1926, in pentacre, w.Va., to leonard and della keeling. In his senior year at east bank high school, uncle sam called him to serve in the u.S. Army in the pacific campaign during world war ii. Upon honorable discharge, wilbur leon attended wv institute of technology with a major in chemistry, which prepared him for a 36-year career as supervisor with e.I. Dupont de nemours and company in belle, w.Va., and houston, texas.

On june 29, 1948, he married the love of his life, mona white. With faith and family as their priorities, these two little love birds raised six daughters in the nurture and admonition of the lord jesus christ. On june 29, 2018, wilbur leon and mona celebrated 70 years of marital bliss.

Wilbur leon was a 50-year member of chelyan masonic lodge #158, an enthusiastic fisherman, and an avid gardener. He also had a passion for family history research, old time hymns, bobtail cats, and bird watching. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, caring brother, and faithful friend.

Wilbur leon was preceded in death by his parents, leonard and della keeling; sister, kathleen nolan; brother, jack keeling; daughter, tonya smith; granddaughter, megan hoak; and son-in-law, david pitre.

He is survived by his cherished and devoted wife, mona white keeling; daughters, kitty scalf (charlie), sherri pitre (rick), becky pitre (mike), angela bremer (louis), and janey coleman; son-in-law, walter paul smith; grandchildren heidi love, heather scalf, leah schmalz, michelle allen, melisa jarvis, kirsten steves, leon smith, dave coleman ii, and louis bremer iii; 19 great – grandchildren, which includes the newest one due in april of 2019; long time friends, bill hall, lloyd fridley, and brenda massie; special nurse, shannon o’dell; faithful feline, fearless fred. He will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched.

A celebration of life will be held on wednesday, november 14, at first presbyterian church of st. Albans, 201 kanawha terrace. Visitation will start at 11 a.M., service at noon, with a committal service to follow at donel c. Kinnard memorial state veterans cemetery, 130 academy drive, dunbar.
