Obituary

Aileen ehman wrenn, 85, of charleston, west virginia, died peacefully in her sleep at home on december 19, 2018. Aileen was born on december 28, 1932 in clay, west virginia. She is predeceased by her parents, mary alice jones and harry thomas, of clay; her first husband of two years, clarence “henry” ehman of charleston; her beloved second husband of 45 years, kenneth frederick “fred” wrenn, jr. Of charleston; siblings carolyn thomas of clay; joyce stockwell kendall of charleston; and angelo thomas (donna) of rancho cordova, ca.

Aileen graduated from clay county high school in 1952 and moved to charleston shortly thereafter. She married henry, and after his tragic death, met and married fred wrenn while they both worked at united fuel/columbia gas transmission. With the birth of their first child, aileen left employment and dedicated herself to being mother, and then grandmother to her own family, but also opened her loving arms to friends young and old whom she embraced with unsurpassed warmth, kindness, wisdom, and humor. Of all things, she delighted in her precious grandchildren and took being a grandma very seriously.

She loved taming wild squirrels and birds, took delight in all things green and growing, was passionate about supplying pawpaw fruit to ellen’s ice cream each summer, loved dancing to eric clapton’s music, and was always there to help, nurture, heal, and support her family. Aileen also enjoyed travel, and she and fred visited many countries together before his passing. She also traveled to nags head, nc nearly every summer for the past 46 years to vacation with her family and friends at her beloved sea foam motel. She was a 50+ year member of first presbyterian church of charleston, and lived her life as an example of christian grace.

Her strength and love will forever be cherished in the lives of her three daughters, diane (tod) holcomb; marilyn wrenn (stephen haynes); and leslie (scot) drake; and grandchildren connor mason haynes, emily wrenn harrell, jonathan frederick harrell, and gabrielle madison drake, all of charleston, wv; sister jean samples of norwalk, oh, and brother steve (eva) thomas of clay, wv. She will also be remembered and missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and close friends and family. The family would like to particularly express appreciation for the friendship and kindness of her neighbors julia schaul, and ron and gina butler who added so much joy to her life.

Visitation services will be held at barlow bonsall funeral home in charleston december 26th from 5:00 p.M. To 7:00 p.M. And december 27th at 12:00 p.M., with funeral service at 1:00 p.M. Graveside service will follow at sunset memorial park in south charleston. For those wishing to make a memorial donation, aileen’s favorite charity was st. Jude children’s research hospital.
