Obituary

Lorise george moses, 98, of charleston passed away peacefully in her sleep on friday, march 1.

She was born in charleston, wv, and was raised in beckley, wv where she lived most of her younger years with her five brothers and two sisters. She worked in her family’s business,

george’s fashions, while attending woodrow wilson high school. After graduation she met her late husband of 59 years, richard moses, and moved with him to charleston, wv.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt to her large family.

She and her husband were devoted christians and worked tirelessly in many capacities at their local church and also in other community ministries. She and her husband were loyal west virginia mountaineer fans and regularly made the trip to morgantown for events. Her greatest joy was spending time with her large family. She will be remembered lovingly for her passion of cooking delicious lebanese meals which she prepared for many guests and  family members throughout the years.   she will also be remembered for offering to make another sandwich or a snack at any time of the day or night.

She was preceded in death by her late husband richard, brothers george, lawrence “pete”, te and alex george of beckley, sisters adele haddad of toledo ohio, and margaret moses of charleston, son-in-law jan butner, and granddaughter christy moses svanemyr.

She is survived by her brother, louis george and wife margaret of beckley, three children  george and wife holly of morgantown, pat butner of charleston, and rick and wife carolyn of charleston and ponte vedra beach fl. Grandchildren are nick butner and wife heather, suzanne moses kanick and husband chad, matt moses and partner ashley, mike moses and wife anne, nicole deitz, peyton & sarah beth moses. Great-grandchildren are isa svanemyr and father vegar, landon & palmer moses, amara kanick, and hadley moses. Many thanks to barbara olsen rn, brittney lacy, faria summers and hospice caregiver and nurses for their loving care of lorise during the past few years. The family extends their  sincerest thanks and appreciation to carolyn moses rn for her tireless dedication and compassion for all the tender, loving care shown to lorise and who directed her total care over the last five months.

Friends and family may visit at st. Timothy’s lutheran church from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on tuesday march 5th with the funeral service following at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to st. Timothy lutheran church or hospice of charleston.

Barlow bonsall funeral home, charleston has been entrusted with the arrangements.
